Aww, thank you! I really do love explaining this sort of thing to people -- the running joke around here is that I can (and will) write five thousand word essays about social media theory at the drop of a hat, because I really do think that it's better when the people who use a site understand the way the owners think and the various factors they're balancing when they're making decisions. (And I'm so thankful Mark and I are so very much on the same page with our principles and our beliefs about what we owe our users and what kind of a company we want to be -- he was the only person I ever considered doing this with and he brought along Jen and Robby, our other two staff, who are just as aligned with our vision! It's not that we never disagree, but we disagree about tiny implementation details, and all of our arguments are us arguing with ourselves about the really thorny questions as much as we're arguing with each other, heh.)
I don't always have the time to do these long detailed responses (and I'll be honest, it's another thing that makes me put off doing news posts, because I know it's what I'm going to be doing for the next few days) but even if it's a ton of work, it's worth it. I spend all this time arguing with myself, the least I can do is let y'all have a front-row seat!
