If you're not sure about communities and want to try out using one, fictional_fans was created specifically as a starter community where people new to dreamwidth can try out communities in a low-stakes way. (Posts are supposed to be related to "fandom" in some way but we have an extremely expansive definition of fandom.) It's a place to both ask questions and try out your own posts in a living community.
