Again, we mentioned issues in the news post that we know impact a large number of our users -- many of whom are members of those protected classes -- and issues that our users care about. We aren't talking to the general public here, we're talking to Dreamwidth users, who are (as we mentioned in our declaration) statistically more likely to be members of those protected classes. We know our userbase to be significantly more composed of people who are LGBT, female, disabled, people of color, and similar demographics than the composition of the general public, and so that's what we mentioned: people care about how these issues will affect them in particular.
If you don't fall into those specific protected classes and therefore those disparate impacts won't affect you, you'll still be affected, because forcing age verification on all users will affect all users.
