Check out the beta Create Entries page -- it's been in beta for a while because there are still some features we need to finish for it, but it's a lot more modern than the old update page.
Third party apps are easy for Android users to install and almost impossible for iPhone users to install -- Apple makes it nearly impossible for people to install things directly without going through their App Store. That's not the major holdup with mobile app development -- there's a lot of backend prereqs that we have to do first, which we've been chipping away at -- but it's still a big issue. Our mobile access runs about 50/50 Android and iOS, so yeah, we do need to be able to get the app into the App Store.
