If you're looking for places to join, here's a Masterlist of Masterlists of Communities on Dreamwidth - hasn't been updated in over a year (sorry), but might be a start when you're looking for specific things.

Also, don't be afraid of comms that haven't been updated in a very long time. Just start posting and breath some new life into them. People will be happy about the revival.
