Don't know if you're aware, but the program f.lux has something called "darkroom mode" which is extremely easy on the eyes. Light colors become very dark, while dark colors become a soft, gentle red. It's sort of like the lighting in a darkroom. It's free and cross-platform, though a bit of a pain to install if you have a mac I think? (What isn't, lol, it's why I'm on Windows.) A perk is if there are programs you have where you don't want the colors changed, you can disable it for those. Downside: everything you have skinned to night mode you'll want to reskin to light colors because it photo-negatives everything a bit in darkroom mode. Try looking at light-colored sites with it on rather than dark-colored sites for best effect.
More directly (though usually not compatible with f.lux) you can also change the settings in your video driver. For most standard Intel drivers, for example, if you have the latest drivers installed, a manager for your color profiles should be in your system tray. If you consistently just don't want certain types of colors on your screen because they're a migraine trigger or similar, changing your display at a video driver level may be helpful.
