It's December holiday promo time!

Hello, all! It's December, and long-time Dreamwidth folks know what that means: it's time for our December holiday points bonus! Plus, we have some good news for those of you who pay by check/money order...

For the month of December, all orders of points and paid time in the Shop, for you or as a gift, will get 10% of your completed cart sent to you in points after you finish the transaction. For instance, if you buy an order of 12 months of paid time for $35 (350 points), you'll get 35 points when the order is complete, to use on a future purchase.

This bonus only applies to orders of paid time and points: rename tokens and bonus icon slots don't receive bonuses. If you buy paid time for a friend, the bonus points will be sent to you, not to them.

The order must be completed in the month of December. IMPORTANT: "the month of December" is defined by server time (which is in UTC), not by your local time zone. So, if you're in EST, the promo ends on December 31 at 7PM your time. Every year a few people think that they have more time to make an order than they do, so if you want to take advantage of the promo, it's a good idea to do it before the last day.

This is our way of saying "thank you" to all y'all who make this place home and believe in it enough to help us keep it running. We may not have all the bells and whistles of other social sites, but unlike them, we don't accept advertising or venture capital and we don't mine your data and sell it to third parties -- and we never will. Your support are what has let us keep that promise for almost a decade now, and it's our tradition to end the year with a promotion that acknowledges that. (I seriously can't believe we've been at this for almost 10 years now.)

The good news for people who pay by check/money order: I don't think there's a one of you who hasn't gotten frustrated by the delays our post office causes with their terrible service and irregular hours. We're in the process of switching to a private mail forwarding service instead. The switch isn't complete yet, but as soon as it is, we'll update the address that the shop tells you to send your payment to. If you're paying by check/money order, please watch out for an address change! And one other change this will require: the new service won't let us have you include the order number on the front of the envelope, so you'll have to make absolutely sure that you include your order number on the check itself or include a piece of paper in the envelope that has your order number on it.

this is fantastic on its own, just that you don't use advertising or sell data or otherwise turn your userbase into product. but by our personal standards, dreamwidth is far and away the BEST social site out there.

it's accessible, reliable, configurable, non-invasive, respectful of identities, welcoming of minorities, puts users first, a safe and relaxing environment, compatible with buggy browsers and old machines, everything works well with screen readers and personalised accessibility settings... in our experience dreamwidth is more likely to work than to break no matter what. while other sites, with all their unnecessary sparkly doodads that are frequently inaccessible and can go wrong so easily, are more likely to break than to work, at least for us.

dreamwidth's setup for how posting and conversation works, and fully customisable privacy and everything else, all contribute to making it more likely communication will develop in a healthy, friendly and supportive direction. unlike a lot of other social sites whose setup and functions make it more likely they'll spawn conflict and bullying instead.

we're disabled, plural, trans*, crazy, and a lot of other things, and we're having to use a machine that's so old it can't run the latest versions of browsers any more. and while other sites are unwelcoming or outright hostile to us, and a lot of them have gradually become entirely nonfunctional on our old computer or broken when we apply the accessibility settings that we need, dreamwidth has always been welcoming, supportive, safe, respectful and reliable. everything works, we're allowed to be ourselves here, and the staff listen when we have problems, and do something about it.

Is it just me, or did others receive duplicate notifications of this, both by email and in their DW inbox? (I checked and the emails have different message-IDs and the same X-Lj-Recipient.)

I think this may have caused a problem with paid time orders. When I tried to add a month for this account via credit card, it said my card wasn't charged due to a problem on your end, and to retry the order. And then on the retry it refused to take the payment due to a "duplicate order."

I'm totally lost here; I need the paid time as soon as possible but now I don't know what to do.

I actually had a small question; I wanted to know if there's a way for me to transfer all my icons from one account to another since this one has 230 of them. This account has been affected by the "not getting notifs in email" issue since this summer and I've been waiting for the event to roll back to switch accounts since I can't live without my email notifs and tried everything to fix it.

Except that 12 months is 500 points/50 dollars, so you'd get 50 points? Right? At least that's what it shows for me...

I'll still be buying for my other paid RP account, but now I just feel confused (especially since no one else said anything), and the nice headcold I got for the holidays probably isn't helping.
