I am somewhat new to SGA, very late to the party actually, and I knew of your story thanks to a meta post about SGA fandom.

To be honest, I am a shallow person who love John Sheppard much more than what is safe and sane ::laugh:: I think it is partly because of my dad, since he is a retired officer of our country's army (an Asian one), and long story short I have this soft spot for military character in general, but the thing with John is kinda insane for me. I read SGA fanfic just because I enjoy seeing other people's opinions about John, so I basically get drown in SGA just because of him, and him only. He contradicts most of my common tastes in characters (people such as Lex Luthor from Smallville, or Raoul Silva from James Bond: Skyfall), and isn't it fascinating?

I love "Freedom's just another word" because, as you said, the main character of that story is the absence of John, and it is so beautiful to look at him that way.

I bought SGA DVD for season 3 and 4, even though I don't see them at all. It frustrates me and humours me at the same time, about my own stupidity and my weird devotion for John.
