You will be glad to know that we crunched a bunch of numbers, and even though image files can be larger than icons, the fact that (comparatively speaking) they're loaded in fewer places and require less server processing power means we will be able to let all account levels use a certain amount of image hosting. We haven't settled the question of what the quotas will be -- they'll be fairly low for free users, higher for paid accounts, and even higher than that for premium paid -- but free users will definitely be able to use the feature a bit.
