And here I always thought they were testing to see whether the innocuous-looking spam comment got deleted or not (though I guess that also applies, since search engines won't find it if it's been blown away).

This actually does a lot to explain some of the truly bizarre comments I've seen from spammers. Stuff with no links included and no relation whatsoever to, well, anything.
