255 characters does seem rather long for a name field. Perhaps shortening the number of characters available would make it less unwieldy in the hover box?

Also, since a lot of people are using it to put in a saying or quip, maybe the profile could have another field that has a longer character limit and is called something like "catch phrase" or "motto"? The would then allow people to put in quotes as well as names.
