Regardless, though, it has to do with how and when the services are delivered, and when the orders come in. Buy 6 / get 2 delivers the paid time right then and there, so it's all accountable-for right at the same point. A higher points bonus carries over, and people can use the points whenever. So, we can plan for more people using the paid services now under option A, and that doesn't hurt our income because the extra time is being delivered along with the gift order, while with a greater points bonus, people would then be able to 'save up' their points and use them later, meaning that we'd be exchanging the higher income now for a lower income later.
We can afford it in December because December is one of our high-income months (April, May, November, and December), but if we did, say, a 30% points bonus now, that's a 30% income drop that has a good chance of being in one of our low-income months (everything else) -- a month like August already comes in at something like 40% under cost, and if everyone decided to use their points bonus then, it'd kill us.
