They certainly help me -- I used to get migraines and headaches a great deal more frequently before I started using light-on-dark as much as possible to reduce the amount of light I was dealing with. Having a native sitescheme that does that is incredibly helpful because while I CAN override stuff to be something more suited to my eyes, it often looks like absolutely ass.
